So what are Salt and Pepper Diamonds?

In world where the popularity of lab diamonds is rocketing, conversations about mined diamonds and their worth is prolific. If someone can't tell just by looking if the 2 carat diamond ring you're wearing is a "real" or mined diamond or not does it matter to you? Everyone is different! Some people would rather have a lab diamond that is big and some would rather have a mined diamond that is smaller, but know that it is authentic. It is really up to the wearer and their values. It is out of this that Salt & Pepper diamonds have risen in popularity.

So what are Salt & Pepper diamonds?

Salt & Pepper diamonds are essentially heavily included diamonds. In a digital world where everyone is teaching themselves on the 4 Cs of diamond grading you can leave your infatuation with clarity behind! They are popular and beautiful precisely for their imperfections. Varying shades of icy whites / greys, distinctive and one of a kind. Nobody is going to mistake these for being grown in a lab.

Why do I like them?

Because they are unique and different! They look great in both modern and vintage designs. In vintage designs they can make it look more edgy and relevant. The tones are just really lovely and complement yellow gold and white diamonds so well too. For example the below designs are really different but both use a rose cut Salt and Pepper diamond centre stone.

Alternative Engagement Rings

Alternative Engagement Rings is a term we are hearing of more and more and Salt & Pepper diamonds are very appealing for those looking for something a little different. I love this version of a Daisy ring that was made with a Salt & Pepper centre stone.

Are there any stones similar to Salt & Pepper Diamonds?

In terms of grey tones with inclusions stones like Rutilated and Tourmalated Quartz and Moissanite might also appeal! These earrings feature drops of Quartz.
